Creating a Safe Space for Learning
The Sam Books are intended to foster non-judgmental, safe spaces for our readers. Sam the School Bus-and-friends adore all of their passengers regardless of race, capability, cultural background, or belief. The books are meant to encourage natural communication and promote meaningful engagement between parent (or teacher) and child. No matter the background, our goal is to help a child feel recognized and encouraged.​
Emphasizing Word Structure and Sounds
The Sam books are intended to be a stepping stone for early readers. Each edition has elements emphasizing phonological awareness - a child’s awareness of the sound structure of words. This is key to eventual reading ability! One factor generally accepted to enhance phonological awareness is rhyming. Once a child learns how to hear, recognize, and play with words, they are on their way to becoming a reader!
